On June 27th, 2010, five hundred invitees witnessed a carefully choreographed coming-of-age ceremony and a true midsummer night’s dream: the celebration of a Bar Mitzvah – the key step towards adulthood in Jewish tradition – this particular event at Munich’s Neuraum raised the bar and then some.

Divided into four consecutive environments, a huge soft-edge projection – accompanied by an additional LED panel – set the scene for a memorable party and defined the event’s various „acts“, from speeches and dinner to a range of live acts. For a truly immersive experience and added depth, ffv stretched the projection across two of the venue’s walls, each 20m wide and 7 m high, and whisked the assembled guests away to an alternate universe that would bridge the gap between childhood dreams and grown-up goals, from enchanted garden to big city lights.

A magic garden opens the night with Mediterranean touches and nocturnal blooms, blossoming in the meadow, while branches sway in the gentle breeze and moonlight bounces off the glittering sea. Bathed in the gleam of myriad neon lights, the subsequent cityscape serves as a promise of things to come and peppers its skyline with landmarks from around the world, centred around Munich’s angel of peace. The next scene takes the guests to the atrium of a grand palazzo, perched above a beautiful coastline. A slew of artists populate the palazzo’s arches and entertain the assembled grandees with their capers and dance steps, while ships make their way across the waves. Finishing off with a beautiful night under the starry skies, this quartet of incredibly detailed immersive environments segues straight into a live video set for the subsequent party.

Coming of age has never been this much fun: it was a night to remember filled with magic moments – enough for a lifetime to come.
