Nesting between the city’s prestigious Adlon Hotel and historical Brandenburg Gate, Berlin’s Academy of the Arts provided the perfect backdrop and setting for a special dinner event thrown by electronics and home entertainment giant Philips.

Commissioned by lead agency Vitamin-e, flora&faunavisions founder Leigh Haas drew on her background in architecture to display the space to its best advantage with a range of subtle, yet effective highlights. Setting the scene and stage for a night of contemporary sophistication, precision-cut slide installations illuminated the hall’s striking crossbeams and triangles. With just a few, clever sleights of hand the cold conference room was transformed into a cosy, comfortable and bustling dinner lounge – anchored by a central light object spanning almost three metres above the 120 invited guests.

Complementing the timeless and timely sophistication of this global brand, DJ David Canisius spun a mix of contemporary classics and classic contemporary sounds while the event’s live entertainment – a virtuoso performance of the world’s first ever electronic instrument, the theremin – added a knowing, tongue-in-cheek nod to Philip’s extensive electronic pedigree.

A clever interplay of light, furnishings and slides, ffv triangulated the perfect fit for the Academy’s angular architecture – with mathematical precision and a generous dose of inspiration.
