In 2002 the Deutsche Bundestag (Federal German Parliament) ran a campaign entitled ‘Wahl 2002’, whose purpose was to persuade a greater number of young people to participate in the 2002 general election. flora&fauna was asked to provide a projection concept for the event which was held two weeks before the election at the Reichstag in Berlin. The space that we had at our disposal was Sir Norman Foster’s majestic glass dome, with its 2,000 square metres of floor space. Given the enormous amounts of glass and the ambient light from outside the building, this proved to be an extremely challenging task. Additional challenges resulted from the fact that the visual content that we were to produce for the event was to be absolutely neutral in tone, so as not to influence the potential young voters in any way whatsoever. We settled for a powerful black and white typographical design, which was inspired by the campaign itself and by the print graphics that we saw around Berlin in the weeks before the event.
We tackled the space with multiple slide projections that entirely filled the space.
